Shiozawa assures himself of fifth trip to RNCFR

Having success at the Ram Wilderness Circuit Finals Rodeo is becoming business-as-usual for Matt Shiozawa. The 31-year-old tie-down roper won two of three rounds, and took home the average title at Golden Spike Event Center on his way to qualifying for his fifth straight Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Through the years, Chubbuck’s Matt Shiozawa has learned the ABCs of  professional rodeo tie-down roping.  “I was playing basketball the other day with a guy who wants to be a tie-down  roper,”  Shiozawa said. “He was 6 foot, fast, a good athlete. Matt is a four-time NFR qualifier and a four-time CFR qualifier. He is the  defending 2010 Calgary Stampede Tie-Down Roper Champion. His fastest run is 6.5
seconds, which won him the top title at the Calgary Stampede in 2010. On his days off Matt tries to get things done around home, have a barbeque, or just 
 rest. Matt and his wife Ali have a baby girl, Stella. Matt's horse is Chuck – 10  yrs.

Tie-down roper Matt Shiozawa claimed his first-ever Calgary title in a rope-off with Fred Whitfield. In the Showdown round, both men tied their calves in 7.4 seconds—forcing the rope-off. Shiozawa came back with a blistering 6.5 seconds to answer Whitfield’s 8.5 and win $116,500. As an aside, Shiozawa was the only 2010 $100K winner not to win the semifinal round. Read more..
